The constraint

Solid walls, limited insulation options, and an existing radiator circuit sized for a boiler running at 70°C.

Why we designed it this way

A heat pump matched to the old boiler's output would have been substantially oversized — boilers are routinely specified with generous margin. We calculated the actual design heat load room by room and sized to that.

Only the rooms that needed larger emitters got them. Replacing every radiator is easy to quote and usually unnecessary; the survey showed which rooms would fail at a lower flow temperature and which would not.

Outcome

Comfort maintained at a materially lower flow temperature, with the emitter work limited to the rooms that actually required it.
